"And God will raise you up on eagle's wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of God's hand."

Today you soar with the eagles
my hero and my son
Your spirit dwells within the skies
a new journey has begun

That Sunday morning you had to leave
you left with a smile on your face
Said "thank you Ma" for loving me
as I held you in our last embrace

With tears in my eyes I whispered
"it's been an honor to have raised such a son"
And I thank God every night to have known you
I am proud of the things you have done

A loving husband and father
you gave them the best part of you
Robin must stay strong for the children
and raise them in the way you would do

She has love and strength from her family
and we will always be here
We will stand by her side and support her
in caring for your children so dear

Everyone who knew you loved you
you were a leader, a pillar of strength
Showed kindness and love to your fellow man
and for this Richard, I want to say thanks

On so many lives you left your mark
of courage, strength and love
Strong and powerful like the eagle
yet with the gentleness of a dove

There were so many you richly influenced
with a love so special and rare
From the children to the elderly
you showed just how much you did care

I could almost see the eagles
the Lord sent down for you that day
As they gently lifted you to heaven
a good bye prayer for you I did say

Now your spirit soars with the eagles
it is free as it dwells up above
Always watching out for those in your heart
My hero my son, you'll forever have my love

In loving memory
Richard Hills
Mar 20, 1964-May 21, 2000
Son, Husband, Father, Brother, Friend

I was very honored when Richard's mother Judith wrote to me and asked if I would make her son and hero a memorial page. Over the past month or two Judith and I have written back and forth in e-mail and I could tell by her heartfelt words how much she was hurting and missing her son. I only hope this simple page does the memory of this extraordinary man justice. He did so much for so many in his short life and I am sure will be remembered with love and gratitude for many years to come.

Through Judith's letters I feel as if I knew her son. Richard leaves behind a wife Robin and 5 beautiful children, Heather, Jodi, Jason, Chelsea and Kate. He also had a sister Lorraine and a brother Mark who he was very close to.

Richard was a carpenter who loved his job and did it with pride. He was an elected official and served on the village council of the small village of Muir, Michigan. He fought for the rights of the  senior citizens and loved the children so as to be a little league manager for 8 years. In gratitude for his untiring service the town dedicated a field in his name called the Richard Hills memorial field No 6. , which was his favorite nascar drivers number, Mark Martin. He loved car racing.

Richard also loved to watched the eagles that came to the fields near his home and so I though it fitting to honor and tribute this giant of a man with eagles as I am sure his soul is soaring with the eagles he loved so dear. The midi selected was Richard's favorite hymn...On Eagles Wings. With much respect to Judith and family and may God Bless you all. Island Princess

"Eagle Medicine is the power of the Great Spirit,
the connection to the Divine. It is the ability to live
in the realm of spirit, and yet remain connected
and balanced within the realm of Earth. Eagle
soars, and is quick to observe expansiveness within
the overall pattern of life. From the heights of the
clouds, Eagle is close to the heavens where the
Great Spirit dwells."

For Richard

Son, I struggle every morn to wake up and face the day alone
and so much of me left that day the eagles brought you home
I soared high amongst the heavens holding on to you so tight
then I left with you the best part of me, my heart, within the light

I know my heart is in good hands as I often feel you here
I am happy and sad at the same time and I sometimes shed a tear
I am sad because I miss you, your shining eyes and beautiful smile
I am glad, because I know my heart is with you all the while

And when the days are very dark and I feel so all alone
I just think of how at peace you are up in your heavenly home
Then I look into your children's eyes and see you smiling back at me
and in your children you have left much love, yourself, their legacy

I will never stop missing you Richard, you are my Hero and my Son
and this ache I carry here inside of me can never become undone
I try to face these lonely days as I so often saw you do, with strength,
courage and the help of God, I know they will see me through

One year has gone by since I held you,
and felt your warmth against my breasts
The day God sent down the eagles
to take you home for your well earned rest
